MEDIA I: Basic Fundamentals

Media 1 - Basic FundamentalsClass Start Date: February 8, 2010 - Prerequisite: None

Course Description: This introductory course is designed to teach students the basics of video production, policies and procedures, composition, communicating a message, camera basics and good shooting practices, basic and non-linear editing which will utilize a Mac-based computer editing program. The students will learn how to research and design a new project, logging and capturing, program windows, clips organizing, trimming, adding b-rolls, creating graphics, transitions, audio and music. Students will be required to complete and pass with an 85% score, the Skills Test-1 (ST-1) in Basic Fundamentals to verify competency in all materials. Upon successful completion of this course, the student is well prepared to move on to the intermediate level.

 

Media II: Design & Directing Fundamentals

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Media I

Description: This course will introduce the students to the fundamentals of set design, which includes lighting design, camera operation, floor directing, and technical directing. The students will learn key elements in transforming a story idea into a compelling and captivating story, produce a mini documentary, and understand the essentials of effective teamwork through their involvement with the elderly to produce video projects. Students will be required to complete, and pass with an 85% score, the Skills Test-2 (ST-2) in Design & Directing Fundamentals to verify competency in all materials. Upon successful completion of this course, the student is well prepared to move on to the advanced level.

   

Media III: Filming & Production Fundamentals

Class Start Date: TBD

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Media I & II

Description: This advanced course will expose students to an integrated multimedia program that includes digital filmmaking, audio production, and web designs. Guided by industry professionals, students will learn to create an unparalleled hybrid of storytelling and visual artistry. Based on commitment and competency, selected participants will be involved in the Internship Program where they will have the opportunity to receive a monthly stipend, and apprentice at committed work sites locally and internationally. Students will be required to complete and pass with an 85% score, the Skills Test-3 (ST-3) in Filming & Production Fundamentals to verify competency in all materials. Upon successful completion of this course, the student is prepared for the Internship Program or volunteer at selected work sites locally.
